Your luxury dream home in an English Village may be closer than you think. Before you decide moving to England is your only hope of making your luxury Manor dreams come true, take a trip to Windsor Farms located in Richmond, Virginia. Once you arrive in the neighborhood, you may need to pinch yourself to make sure you are awake.

Windsor Farms

The community was originally conceived in the early 1920s and was completed in 1924. It was designed to recreate an English Village with lovely gaslight style street lights, a beautiful Baptist Church situated right next to a true to life village green.  The streets in the area all have names plucked right out of a British street map. These street names such as Canterbury, Dover and Oxford add to the Merry Olde England feel of the area.

One of the first things that you will notice about this beautiful neighborhood is how green it is. All of the homes sit back from the street and have ample lush, green lawns. Each home sits on a lot that is anywhere from a little over an acre to a little over two acres creating a sense of privacy and space. Due to the neighborhood’s age, the streets are lined with gorgeous mature trees creating a somewhat “country village” feel and providing shade.

Windsor Farms is built in a half circle. There are some larger streets in the neighborhood such as Dover Road, Oxford Circle and Windsor Way which lead you right up to the village green. Explore beyond these streets and you will find charmingly small side streets lined with trees and lush green lawns that make you feel as though you are miles away from the city. One of the most notable things about this neighborhood is how quiet and serene it is, providing a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city for the Executives who live here.

With all this talk of peace, quiet and lovely green spaces you may think that there is nothing to do here. You’d be wrong. Two of the homes in the neighborhood are historic homes built in England and relocated here in Richmond. Agecroft Hall and Virginia House.

Agecroft Hall

According to Agecroft Hall’s website, the historic home was built in 16th century England and moved to Richmond, Virginia in 1925. It is located on a dead end street at the back side of the neighborhood near the James River. You can enjoy self guided tours of the property or be transported back in time with Agecroft “living history” events. These events show you how people in the 16th century lived, worked and played. The home has toys and games from the 16th century so children can learn how kids from that period filled their time. Students can attend educational programs here to discover what it was like to work and live at Agecroft in England. They will also discover how plants and animals were used in 16th century England through educational talks, video and historical reenactments. In addition to these educational events visitors can take tours of the many gardens sprinkled over the 23 acres of land that Agecroft occupies.

Virginia House

According to the Virginia House website, this beautiful former English manor home was also relocated to Windsor Farms in Richmond in 1925. Now owned by the Virginia Historical Society, this lovely building sits overlooking the James River. Guests touring the home will be able to appreciate the former owner’s wonderful taste when admiring  English and Spanish antiques, silk drapes, fine silver as well as Chinese and Oriental carpets that adorn the home. Situated on over 7 acres of land, the surrounding gardens and land provide a beautiful backdrop.

Downtown Richmond

Windsor Farms with all of its peace and relaxation is less than 5 miles from downtown Richmond which means that there is plenty to do just down the street. Richmond is located on the James River and the river walk is one of the many attractions that you will be able to enjoy. History and art lovers must check out one of the many museums in the city.
